Thomas Cunningham is from Boston, MA. Tom, as he’s known to most, is a banker by profession. He is the brother of Captain Mike Cunningham.

“Sailing in the worldwide voyage would be the ultimate experience of my life. In 2000 I sailed around the world with a group of teachers meeting school children in 24 countries. We distributed literacy kits, which provided basic schoolroom tools such as pencils and notebooks to kids who had never used them before. Using the Internet we were able to introduce kids in the USA to schoolrooms and students in other parts of the world.
The Hōkūle‘a will also be a unique good will ambassador and teacher reminding all of us of the fragility of our planet and become a catalyst of healing to the peoples of the world and the planet we share.”
