Russell Joshua Amimoto

Captain

Russell Amimoto is from Wainiha, Kaua‘i. He is currently working in a fellowship program with The Nature Conservancy as an assistant marine coordinator. Russell is also enrolled at Kapi‘olani Community College in a liberal studies program, specializing in geography and voyaging.

“I believe this is an exciting opportunity for me to not only hone my skills in sailing and leadership as a captain, but to also give back by offering others an opportunity to sail and enhance their relationship with the ocean. Experiencing Palmyra will be an invaluable learning experience for me; the pristine ecosystem on the atoll will inspire me toward conservation in our own islands.”

“My hopes for the worldwide voyage are powerful, yet fundamental. I hope that this voyage will bring people together, in Hawai‘i and internationally, to not only sail the globe, but to also join partnerships in larger goals of community and cooperation. I hope that the sail will help to reinforce values of sharing, learning, respect, responsibility, and a love for the environment. I hope to sail on at least two legs of the journey.”
