Michael Cunningham, known by those closest to him as “Irish Mike,” was born in Boston, MA, but he has lived in Hawai‘i since 1964. A mechanical engineer, Mike continues a tradition famous of Irish around the globe.

“I’m interested in going to Palmyra because I would like to gain what’s called “blue water” sailing experience. I am also keen to see Palmyra, an area virtually untouched by man. My job will be to provide assistance on the escort boat.”

“I hope to be able to assist with the escort vessel and serve as crew for Hōkūle’a on its worldwide voyage.”
