Heidi Kai Guth

Crew

Heidi Guth was born on Maui, and though she spent most of her childhood in the Virgin Islands, now considers O‘ahu to be her home. She is a lead advocate for Native Rights at the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and OHA’s manager of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument.

“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to serve as crew on the Palmyra voyage; to experience and educate about the stunning and virtually pristine marine and atoll ecosystems of Palmyra; to bring awareness of immediate and potential effects of climate change on nearby Pacific Islands; and to help Höküle’a reconnect another piece of the Hawaiian Kingdom. I’m most looking forward to seeing Hawai‘i arise from the horizon as we sail home.”

“Hōkūle’a‘s planned worldwide voyage can inspire many generations around the world to reinvigorate and perpetuate their indigenous cultures as a way to evolve with the earth and to respect and heal their local and global environments.”
