Carey Kiyoshi Amimoto was born in Wainiha,Kaua‘i, but he currently lives in Nu‘uanu. Kiyoshi, as he is known to most, works in construction, roofing, and plumbing.
“I am going on this voyage, first, to support my brother, who is captaining Höküle’a on the voyage back to Hawai‘i from Palmyra. I love the ocean and want to see the fascinating wildlife on Palmyra.”
“I would love to participate in the worldwide voyage. I hope that the voyage will bring awareness to problems that other places face and perhaps some solutions to those problems. Maybe other countries might find inspiration from this. After all, everybody has a culture. I think it’s better to go back to a simpler way of living. I think that ‘development’ isn’t always the path to happiness.”
