As we voyage around Hawai‘i and the world, we hope to learn how other cultures take care of their homes and live sustainably. At this very moment, educators, students, farmers and community leaders in America are coming together to raise awareness about the food we feed our children in school. We can learn a lot about food security from our neighbors in Boulder, Colorado.
Here in Hawai‘i, a coalition is forming to connect our schools with local farmers and decrease our dependency on imported food while providing healthy food for our children.
Wai‘alae Elementary School is just one of many schools in Hawai‘i that is involved in the ‘AINA In Schools program with Kokua Foundation. ‘AINA In Schools is a farm-to-school program dedicated to connecting children to their land, waters and food in order to grow a healthier future for Hawai‘i.
