Reaching Out to the Community
Even though Hōkūle‘a isn't sailing long distances at the moment (she's visiting the beautiful island of Kaho‘olawe), our crews and volunteers are still fulfilling their kuleana of working within the community.
We were honored to host members of the Papahānaumokuākea ‘Ahahui Alaka‘i. This group of teachers and community leaders have been selected as ambassadors to help promote conservation and stewardship of the coastal and marine environments in their own communities throughout the state and nation. They will be spending a week on Midway Island and then returning to their communities.
