Hōkūle'a Estimated Arrival Time Noon

Aloha friends and family,

Please gather at METC at 11 am (instead of 9:30 as previously reported). It looks like Hōkūle‘a and Kama Hele will be in around noon.

Again, if you would like to bring pupu/ice cold drinks (the crew hasnʻt had anything cold for a while) and lei, please feel free. Paddlers you are, of course, welcome to paddle out to greet them.

your arrival time

How did you estimate the arrival time as 11:00a.m?

Arrival time

Aloha,

Since we knew their approximate position and speed, we could calculate a very rough arrival time. However, one of the hard things about traditional voyaging is that both the crew and the wa‘a are at the mercy of the wind and waves.  So, because Hōkūle‘a's speed is never really constant, we refer to it as canoe time – meaning basically they arrive when they arrive.
