'Ohana Wa'a

‘Ohana Wa‘a literally means “canoe family.” It is the alliance of Hawaiiʻs voyaging organizations, canoe leadership and crews. The following representatives are the founding members of ‘Ohana Wa‘a:

  • Hōkūle‘a - Polynesian Voyaging Society (island of O‘ahu, Honolulu)
  • Hawai‘iloa - Friends of Hōkūle‘a and Hawai‘iloa (Island of O‘ahu, Honolulu)
  • Makali‘i – Nā Kalaiwa‘a Moku o Hawai‘i (Island of Hawai‘i, Kawaihae)
  • Hōkūalaka‘i – ‘Aha Pūnana Leo (Island of Hawai‘i, Hilo)
  • Nāmahoe - Nā Kalaiwa‘a o Kaua‘i (Island of Kaua‘i, Nāwiliwili)
  • Mo‘okiha – Hui Wa‘a o Kaulua (Island of Maui, Lāhaina)
  • ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawai‘i (island of Hawai‘i, Hilo)

Every member of ‘Ohana Wa‘a conducts its own unique programs and serves its distinct communities. Linking the ‘Ohana Wa‘a together are the values of the canoe family born from Hōkūle‘a. These values unify them to work together and ensure that the future of the voyaging community is strong.
