Training: Hotel Hōkūle‘a

March 5, 2009 – For nearly a week, Hōkūle‘a crew members have been on alert, waiting for the weather to clear. We know that when the moment is right, Captain Bruce Blankenfeld will say, "Letʻs go." And, off weʻll sail to Palmyra Atoll.

In many ways the weather has been a blessing. Weʻve had additional practice sails here in Hawai‘i. Weʻve rechecked our lashings and sails. Kama Hele, our escort boad, has been inspected and double inspected to ensure her smooth sailing. Plus, each evening weʻve been able to go home to our friends and families.

However, one of our crew members, The Original Keala Kai, is experiencing the wait a little differently. Keala lives on Kaua‘i and therefore cannnot go home at night. Instead, heʻs staying at the best hotel there is.

You can see some examples of how Keala passes time at www.TheOriginalKealaKai.com
