Video blog: On the way to Palmyra

Crew member Jenna Ishii gives us a sense of life aboard Hōkūle‘ā on the way to Palmyra Atoll.

In many of the videos and photos, we've shown crew using the steering sweep to guide Hōkūle‘a through the water. In this footage, we see the steering sweep from a different angle, actually in the water. You can imagine the force placed upon the 150-pound wooden sweep, and you can see why many steersmen have been toppled head over foot as the ocean pushes against what is essentially a really big paddle.
