The Waters of Palmyra

Much has been said about the beautiful, intact coral reef system of Palmyra Atoll. However, thereʻs nothing like experiencing it first-hand. The voyagers aboard Hōkūle‘a and Kama Hele were priviledged to dive in Palmyraʻs protected waters. Upon their return to Hawai‘i, each voyager shared his or her wonder of this extraoridnary ecosystem. They noted that not too long ago Palmyraʻs reefs, like Hawai‘iʻs, were damaged and in peril. With care, the reef system with the multitude of species that call it home has not only rebounded, but thrives.

Much mahalo to the Nature Conservancy and the US Fish and Wildlife Service for providing this incredible opportunity to learn and to share.
